The Broadway Bistro

300 S Main St, Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City, UT

Formally 3rd and main, the Broadway Bistro has one of the best location in Salt Lake City, however its goodness may end there. The Bistro leaves much to be desired, but its not the worst place to eat. What we love about the Bistro:

1. The location. Its great for those downtown outing. Whether you are on your way to the theatre or the clubs, it conveniently located.

2. The space: Its a great space. If you loved 3rd and Main, you'll feel right at home at the Broadway Bistro. All the furnishings and habitat is the same.

3. The food: Yes, the food is good. Its not the same menu as 3rd and Main, but there are definitely high points to the menu. Don't go in thinking you are going to be enjoying the great burgers and martinis of its former house, but the almon and salads are good. The pasta dishes are quite satisfying. Give the risoto a try.

What could be better:

1. The atmosphere: On a Thursday night downtown, you would think that the conveniently located Bistro would be hopping, but that is not the case at all. We were the only ones in the joint for a full two hours. It was a creepy feeling. We even saw some of the wait staff take several smoke breaks...hmmm.

2. The drinks: Alright folks, we're not asking for much, but when you order something with soda or tonic water you want a little fizz and a fresh lime, is that too much to ask?

3. The appetizers: Although the entrees are delicious, the appetizers leave you wanting. They are basic and unappealing. Why oh why did you change the menu?

All in all, The Broadway Bistro left us confused and a little disappointed. We really wanted them to wow us, but alas, there was no wow. Its also not a good sign when your wait staff is complaining about the management and telling us that they are leaving for another restaurant. We love the space, but come on, advertise and let SLC know that you're back.

The Broadway Bistro at a glance:
Service: Good, but when you are the only ones in the house, can it be bad?
Food: Yum, but stick to the entrees. Its not gonna blow you away though.
Cash Flow: Be ready to have spend a little, but still affordable.
Bathrooms: Clean and tidy, a little bit of a maze to get to, but clean. Oh Yeah.

An old classic, but still worth the hype. Cedars has been around since 1981, believe it or not and its still making a splash. From the outside, it looks as if it could be your local tavern, but walk in and you are in for a treat. What we love about Cedars:
1. The atmosphere: Its quirky, yes, but also fun. I mean come one, its middle eastern cuisine. The shoe has got to fit the food.
2. The Hookah: Who doesn't love hookah? And smoking hookah out of an authentic hookah pipe...it doesn't get much better than that.
3. The food: Yum, oh yum. The soup and salad appetizer is basic at best, but then you get to the meat and potatoes. They do Middle Eastern right. They balance all the spices so that you are not overwhelmed with anything. (Including cinnamon...you know this has happened at joints before.) Our favorites... Lamb Tagine and Chicken Pastilla. Ask the staff for recommendations, they can let you know what you will like.
4. The belly dancers: Fridays and Saturdays will never be the same for you.
5. The servers: Friendly and helpful...two thumbs up.
Things we might not love as much:
1. The bathrooms: Well....you might want to consider engaging the thigh muscles and doing a good hover. That's all we're gonna say.
2. The wait: When it gets busy, you can have a bit of a longer wait for your food and server, but hey quality takes time
So what do we think? Cedars of Lebanon...we're glad to have you around.
At a glance ratings:
Service: Superb...a packed house affects this.
Food: Yum yum, gimme sum.
Cash Flow: Be prepared to shell out some cheddar, not tons...but some.
Bathrooms: Um... Sketch

The Tin Angel Cafe

Yum. Located in the heart of the up and coming downtown area, The Tin Angel Cafe is definitely a great get for the good ole SLC. With its eclectic atmosphere and friendly staff, its a nice departure form the corporate American chain restaurants. So whats so great about it:

1. The decor. Think grandmas attic, mixed with an antique store with a quirky mashed up style.

2. The staff. Friendly and funny. Can you ask for more?

3. The music. Being located right next to Positively 4th Street has its benefits. Don't be surprised if you find yourself jamming out to some old school Joy Division. Also, hit them up on Fridays and Saturdays for their energy filled live music nights.

4. The food. Oh did we mention the food? Its deliciouso! And affordable. They could possibly have the best gnocchi in town. Not to mention they are a locals driven and organic business. Their food is fresh and original. The salads are the bomb, great wine and deserts too. Bread pudding.....need I say more.

5. Pabst Blue Ribbon. Yes, you can order a PBR. Not draft...oh no, can. How can you not love that?

6. The bathrooms. Some of the cleanest on the bunch. You know the food is gonna be good when the bathrooms are emaculate.

So, all in all, we recommend The Tin Angel Cafe. Yes, you may be afraid that you could be accosted by a homeless man from Pioneer Park, (thats just a joke folks) but its definitely worth the risk.
